Something from the AIB…
26 – 30 September 2008, Richard Ivey School of Business, London Canada
“The things we have to learn before we do them, we learn by doing them.” (Aristotle)
The PhD Sustainability Academy will bring together doctoral students from across Canada and all over the world who are interested in exploring leading thought and practice of sustainability in business and non-profit organizations. This year’s theme is “Water & Wine.” We will help craft learning experiences around these and other sustainability issues more broadly by bringing together young researchers with diverse interests with business leaders involved in the practice of sustainability, and experienced academic facilitators with world-leading contributions to the thinking and practice of sustainable management (Andy Hoffman, Dirk Matten, Christian Seelos and Ivey faculty: Tima Bansal, Oana Branzei, Gerard Seijts, Paul Beamish and Eric Morse). The facilitation approach builds on the creed, “You teach some by what you say, teach more by what you do, but most of all, you teach most by who you are.”
We are now looking for fifteen young scholars and would be pleased to receive applications from promising doctoral students. All on-the-ground program costs (e.g., accommodation, meals, local transportation, activities, etc.) will be covered. Doctoral Students Invited to Apply by July 15th, 2008. To preview the agenda, and obtain additional details on the submission process, and the faculty and business leaders involved in this years’ academy, please see the attached poster or visit our website, http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/centres/building/outreach/PhDAcademy
Acceptances and invitations will be sent out by July 31th, 2008. All invited participants will be asked to submit full working manuscripts no later than August 31st, 2008.

In September (Tuesday 2nd) the accounting group at the University of Southampton is hosting the British Accounting Association’s South West regional conference. One (at least!) of the key note speakers may be of interest to CSR researchers - Richard Murphy director of Tax Research Network was described in Accountancy Age’s top 50 “Financial Power List for 2006″ as “The research muscle behind the Tax Justice Network, the anti-avoidance campaigning group, Murphy is a thorn in the side of senior advisers who try and insist that this avoidance stuff doesn’t really matter and well, it’s a legal issue anyway. ” Hopefully you will be interested to come along or even offer a paper, more info about the conference can be found at http://www.management.soton.ac.uk/swag2008/
